Membership and Rates

Patrons must pay a membership fee in order to check materials out of the Library.

Subscription rates start at $60 per year. This can also be paid in kind by donating five hours as a volunteer each month.

It is acceptible to pay some months and work other months. Paying $30 for six months is good, too. Our fund is at critical - any amount you can pay on your subscription dues, or donate to the Library, is very appreciated.

Mission Statement

Seattle Metaphysical Library is a nonprofit, community-based effort whose mission is to facilitate research and exploration into the mysteries of Self and the Universe, by providing resources, opportunities and inspiration within an open-minded atmosphere that encourages free thought and supports open exchange of ideas.

Our objectives include:
  • Organize and provide quality materials such as books, presentations, workshops, information and ideas representing the rich diversity of world cultures, languages and thought, and other worthwhile resources.
  • Promote a lifelong love of reading and learning, by providing opportunities that inform, enrich and empower every person in our community.
  • Become the best lending library possible while reaching out to the generations of today and the future, through consistent quality and outstanding customer service.
  • Offer refuge for controversial subjects, unpopular ideas and unquestioned defense of each individual's right to free speech, access to information, and the pursuit of knowledge, happiness and wisdom.

Recent history of the library.

Until early 2005, the Seattle Metaphysical Library had been located on Capital Hill for many years. There came a point when the funding ran dry. The rent was not paid, and the Library was shut down. All the books and other materials were put into storage.

The Board of Directors was dissolved and it seemed that the Library was gone forever. However, some people did not give up. A temporary new location has been found, and even though it seems very small in size, it is open.

Many materials are still in storage. We need more volunteers to assist with unpacking and fill various positions. We need funding to pay the bills. However, the miracle is that the Library still survives.

Now that we are moving forward again, we are trying to rally everyone together to save the Library, and keep this wonderful, esoteric collection of people and resources together. We hope you will help, too.

Metaphysics is the way to interpret and understand life on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual planes.

The whole planet is vibrating with energy and we all feel it.

The whole planet is vibrating with new energy – we all feel it. The Library is a base and a repository of ancient and occult knowledge that has been kept away from the average person for millennia. This knowledge is now emerging into the public consciousness in areas like new physics, alternative energy, new ways of organizing work, new understandings of what it means to be human, alternative health. These are vital areas that the Library will be moving toward as we work on bringing the Library back to life.
